Die Rolle von Bakterien, einschließlich atypischer Keime, bei der akuten Exazerbation der chronisch-obstruktiven Lungenerkrankung (COPD) in Tunesien wurde unterschiedlich beurteilt. Es handelt sich um eine deskriptive und analytische Studie, die Patienten mit einem Durchschnittsalter von über 68,3 Jahren einschließt, die wegen EABPCO hospitalisiert wurden. Von den 240 eingeschlossenen Patienten wurden 175 Sputumkulturen (73%) als signifikant eingestuft. 29 Kulturen waren positiv (16,5%) und 31 Keime wurden isoliert, von denen die häufigsten P. aeruginosa (25,8%), K. pneumoniae (16,2%), H. influenzae (13%) und S. pneumoniae (9,7%) waren. Die Prävalenz von Infektionen mit C. pneumoniae, M. pneumoniae und C. burnetii betrug 8.4%, 9% bzw. 6.6%. Eine Infektion mit L. pneumophila wurde nicht gefunden. Die Anthonisen-Kriterien wurden mit einer positiven Kultur in Verbindung gebracht (p=0,04). Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, dass die geringe Positivität der quantitativen Sputumbakteriologie und der hohe Prozentsatz resistenter Stämme mit einer Dominanz ausschließlich multiresistenter Pseudomonas bei der Behandlung von Patienten mit EABPCO hilfreich sein können.
