No Reino Unido, as instalações de cuidados residenciais são muito procuradas e a sua importância para o sistema de saúde é inquestionável. O estudo tem por objetivo analisar as provas de investigação primária existentes sobre os cuidados residenciais e o seu impacto nas pessoas idosas e apresentar um resumo e uma avaliação crítica dos resultados da investigação. A investigação utilizou um modelo de revisão sistemática da literatura (SLR). Os investigadores pesquisaram 5 bases de dados electrónicas (PubMed Central, PsycINFO, CINAHL Plus, Embase e BMC Geriatrics) com base na norma Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA). A síntese qualitativa envolveu a extração de dados e a avaliação do risco de enviesamento utilizando uma diretriz validada, a realização de meta-análises utilizando os cálculos da diferença média e da diferença média padrão, e o teste de qualidade das provas utilizando a abordagem GRADE. O estudo revelou que os cuidados residenciais, juntamente com vários factores como ambientes, ligações sociais, localização dos cuidados e padrão de cuidados, têm um impacto significativo no bem-estar, na QV e na saúde geral dos adultos mais velhos.
