Artur Azevedo, um escritor cansado do fracasso, após muitas frustrações e por ver suas filhas: Gisele e Beatriz, e sua esposa: Maria, passando por dificuldades, decide continuar escrevendo apenas como ghost writer. Alguém o contrata para escrever uma estória intitulada: sua alma pelo sucesso, oferecendo uma boa quantia em dinheiro. Após aceitar a proposta irrecusável e assinar o contato, ele inicia a escrita e toda a sua vida começa a tomar um rumo enigmático e misterioso. Quando o ghost writer termina a estória se vê sendo carregado para uma dimensão paralela a essa, onde ele é o escritor mais famoso de todos os tempos. Tomando consciência disso, em uma espécie de sonho, vê seu corpo sobre a cama de um hospital em coma profundo e sua esposa e filhas banhadas pela dor e miséria eminentes. Devido à situação, sua esposa, incerta do futuro, começa a se relacionar com outro homem, um de seus piores inimigos e Artur, envolvido numa trama sórdida que se revelará aos poucos, vai precisar fazer uma escolha: o amor pela família ou a fama que sempre desejou ter com seus livros.
