As pequenas e médias empresas (PME) são universalmente reconhecidas como uma força fundamental para impulsionar o desenvolvimento económico; no entanto, os empresários das PME enfrentam uma série de desafios, incluindo a falta de acesso ou o acesso limitado a serviços financeiros formais. Utilizando métodos mistos de investigação, o estudo procurou analisar a facilidade de acesso das PME ao financiamento bancário e o impacto do financiamento bancário no seu desempenho, medido em termos de rendibilidade dos activos (ROA). Contrariamente a muitos outros estudos, os resultados mostram que as PME da Namíbia tinham um bom acesso ao financiamento bancário. O estudo estabelece ainda que a disponibilidade de empréstimos bancários está positivamente relacionada com o desempenho das PME, enquanto a idade da empresa tem uma relação negativa com o desempenho.
