They survived the pursuit. Now they have to find out whether it was ever truly theirs.Seven months after VANTA collapsed, Mara Venn and Elias Rourke have built something neither expected to survive the hunt: a life together. It comes with rules. No hidden investigations. No secrets disguised as protection. No deciding what the other person is allowed to know. Then a sealed Project Eighteen archive is opened.Inside are behavioral profiles created years before VANTA existed-and evidence that Mara and Elias were being studied long before they ever met.The system didn’t simply predict who they might become. It may have helped shape the choices that brought them together. As forgotten subjects resurface and an authorization network that should be dead begins operating again, Mara is drawn deeper into the machinery behind Project Eighteen. The people who built it disagree on almost everything except one terrifying possibility:The models worked. And when Mara begins keeping information from Elias for reasons that sound frighteningly reasonable, she realizes the system may understand her weaknesses better than she wants to admit. To uncover who is still controlling the architecture, Mara and Elias must decide whether being predicted makes their choices less real-or whether choosing each other after knowing the truth is the one thing no model can own.
