Nadkwaśność żołądka spowodowana nadmierną produkcją kwasu solnego może powodować zgagę, niestrawność i refluks żołądkowo-przełykowy. Mineralne leki zobojętniające kwas, takie jak wodorotlenek glinu, wodorotlenek magnezu i węglan wapnia, neutralizują nadmiar kwasu i łagodzą objawy. W niniejszym badaniu oceniono zdolność neutralizowania kwasów (ANC) 13 leków zobojętniających kwas wprowadzonych do obrotu w Algierii, stosując miareczkowanie pH-metryczne i metodę titrimetryczną. Wyniki wykazały, że większość produktów przekroczyła normy FDA, z Rennie (węglan wapniowo-magnezowy) na czele, a następnie Maalox. Forma dawkowania wpływa na skuteczność, przy czym płyny przewyższają tabletki do żucia. Chociaż niektóre produkty na bazie alginianu i wodorowęglanu mają niższy ANC, ich mechanizm ochronny pozostaje istotny. Należy również wziąć pod uwagę zawartość sodu. Dane te stanowią wskazówkę dotyczącą wyboru terapii i kierunku przyszłych badań.
