Der Mangel an qualifizierten Lehrern ist ein kritisches Problem im Bereich der technischen und beruflichen Bildung (TVET - Technical and Vocational Education and Training). In dieser Studie werden die Hindernisse untersucht, die der Ausbildung kompetenter Lehrkräfte für die berufliche Bildung in Äthiopien entgegenstehen. Als Datenquelle diente eine qualitative Fallstudie mit 20 gezielt ausgewählten Lehrerausbildern. Die Studie deckte zahlreiche Herausforderungen auf, darunter schwache Zulassungskriterien für Studenten, fehlende Kompetenzstandards für Lehrer, irrelevante Lehrpläne, theorieorientierte Ausbildung, begrenzte Ressourcen, ein unwirksames Qualitätssicherungssystem, Führungsprobleme, Lücken in den praktischen und pädagogischen Fähigkeiten der Lehrerausbilder, Branchenerfahrung, Interesse und Motivation. Die Studie kam zu dem Schluss, dass verschiedene Einschränkungen entscheidend sind, um qualitativ hochwertige und motivierte Bewerber anzuziehen, Kompetenzstandards festzulegen, den Lehrplan an die spezifischen Bedürfnisse von Lehrern in der beruflichen Bildung anzupassen, die Industrie in den Ausbildungsprozess einzubeziehen und die Kompetenzen der Lehrerausbilder durch Praktika in der Industrie zu verbessern.
