Chociaż macierzysty kaliks[4]pirrol został opisany ponad 100 lat temu, rozpoznawanie anionów towarzyszące zmianom konformacyjnym odkryto dopiero w 1996 roku. Podjęto szeroko zakrojone działania mające na celu poprawę powinowactwa i selektywności. Ciągły rozwój badań w tej dziedzinie sprawia, że ten łatwy w produkcji makrocykl staje się coraz bardziej obiecujący. Literatura dotycząca funkcjonalizowanych makrocykli kaliks-pirolu i ich zastosowań analitycznych została wyczerpująco omówiona. Mam nadzieję, że niniejsza książka stanie się zalążkiem przyszłych osiągnięć w dziedzinie chemii supramolekularnej.
