Ninety percent of port infrastructure and facilities in East Java were built along the north coast from Tuban, Lamongan, Gresik, Bangkalan, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, Situbondo and Banyuwangi; while 10% were built in the south coast area including Pacitan, Trenggalek, Tulungagung, Blitar, Malang, Lumajang, Jember and Banyuwangi. The Prigi Commercial Port was built on the south coast in Trenggalek Regency, Watulimo District to minimize the disparities between the northern and southern regions of East Java Province as well as to increase tourism and attract investors. It has three operational aims, first to serve pioneer shipping south of Java to the east to Banyuwangi and west to Cilacap, second to serve shipping to the north of Java Island, and third to serve Indonesia-Australia international shipping.Goods and passengers from the hinterland can enter and exit Prigi Commercial Port from the east via Blitar Regency to Trenggalek Regency via the national road and the district to Prigi Commercial Port; from the north through Kediri Regency, Tulungagung Regency, and Trenggalek Regency via national roads and regency roads to Prigi Commercial Port; from the west through Ponorogo and Pacitan Regencies via the national road then into Trenggalek via the district road to Prigi Commercial Port; and from the south via the southern causeway (JLS) via the west and east sides.Good quality road infrastructure in the hinterland area of Niaga Prigi Port will be attractive to investors because it would support the smooth distribution of production materials and their products to and from other regions as well as import/export of goods. Prigi Commercial Port also has great potential to support tourism, providing access to the hinterland of Prigi Niaga Port, with its natural panoramas, its beautiful beaches, and traditional cultures. Meanwhile, trade potential in East Java Province would be enhanced by the port’s ability to manage and unload commodities such as fishery products and handicrafts. This report concludes that to support the smooth operation of the hinterland to Prigi Niaga Port and vice versa, accessibility, connectivity and transportation integration need to be maintained and continuously improved.
