Der steigende Verbrauch von Kunststoffen hat zu großen Mengen biologisch nicht abbaubarer Abfälle geführt, was eine große Herausforderung für die Umwelt darstellt. Die Wiederverwertung von Kunststoffabfällen in Beton als grobe Zuschlagstoffe stellt eine nachhaltige Alternative dar, führt aber häufig zu einer geringeren Festigkeit aufgrund der schlechten Verbindung zwischen Kunststoff und Zementleim. In dieser Studie wird der Einsatz von Bacillus subtilis-Bakterien auf Kunststoffabfallzuschlägen zur Verbesserung der Betonleistung untersucht. Bacillus subtilis-Sporen, die für ihre Fähigkeit bekannt sind, unter günstigen Bedingungen Kalziumkarbonat (CaCO₃) auszufällen, wurden zur Biobeschichtung von geschredderten Kunststoffzuschlagstoffen verwendet. Es wurden Betonproben mit unterschiedlichen Anteilen an Kunststoffabfallzuschlägen (5 %, 10 %, 15 %, 20 %) mit und ohne bakterielle Beschichtung hergestellt. Am Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering, Mahagaon, wurden Tests zur Druckfestigkeit und Rissheilung durchgeführt. Vorläufige Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, dass die bakterielle Beschichtung die Bindung erhöht, die Druckfestigkeit verbessert, die Durchlässigkeit verringert und die Selbstheilungskräfte fördert. Dieser neuartige Ansatz integriert Kunststoffrecycling und Bio-Betontechnologie und bietet einen Weg zu nachhaltigem Bauen.
