Le patrimoine culturel est un ensemble de monuments, d’édifices, d’œuvres, de traditions locales, lié au territoire qui l’a vu naître et qui, en tant que tel, représente la richesse d’un pays d’un point de vue à la fois culturel et économique, destinée à la jouissance commune. La notion de 'patrimoine' trouve ses racines dans la langue latine : le terme patrimonium désignait en effet les richesses héritées par le père de famille. Dès l’époque romaine, le concept de protection du patrimoine a été repris et plusieurs personnages illustres se sont attelés à cette tâche au fil des siècles, parmi lesquels Pétrarque et Raphaël Sanzio. L’objectif de ce volume est de présenter une brève revue de certains sites archéologiques de Calabre datant de la préhistoire, de l’époque grecque et de l’époque romaine, afin de faire connaître leur existence et de sensibiliser l’individu. Le concept de patrimoine est également traité au sens large, en partant de son origine et en retraçant brièvement les étapes qui ont contribué à la promulgation de la base législative qui protège aujourd’hui le patrimoine culturel.
