Quantitative Analyse von Candida albicans in der Epithelschleimhaut und ihre Korrelation mit mikroskopischen Merkmalen. Die Papillenhyperplasie wird als eine Form der oralen Candidose angesehen, insbesondere als eine Form der Prothesenstomatitis, Typ III nach der Klassifikation von Newton (1962), die klinischen und mikroskopischen Kriterien entspricht. Die Ätiologie der Papillenhyperplasie ist noch nicht vollständig geklärt, aber es werden mehrere Faktoren damit in Verbindung gebracht, wie z. B. schlecht sitzende Prothesen, schlechte Mundhygiene, das bei der Herstellung der Prothesen verwendete Material, das zu einer Überempfindlichkeit führt, Traumata, Immunschwäche und der Pilz Candida albicans, wobei jedoch die Beziehung zwischen dem Vorhandensein des Pilzes und der Pathogenese der Krankheit hergestellt werden muss.
