3,5 milioni di persone soffrono di retinite pigmentosa in tutto il mondo. La retinite pigmentosa è una malattia degli occhi che danneggia la retina. La retina è lo strato di tessuto situato nella parte posteriore dell’occhio che converte le immagini luminose in segnali nervosi e li invia al cervello. La retinite pigmentosa può essere ereditaria. La malattia può essere causata da una serie di difetti genetici. Secondo i dati statistici, in Svezia vivono 3000 persone affette da RP e in Iran sono registrate 4000 persone presso l’Associazione RP, ma sulla base di interviste con pazienti affetti da RP attivi nell’Associazione Iraniana per la Protezione delle Persone con RP, si sostiene che, nonostante queste ultime statistiche, si stima che in Iran siano 70.000 le persone affette da RP. Lo scopo principale di questa ricerca è quello di indagare i fattori che influenzano la soddisfazione di vita dei pazienti affetti da RP e di individuare le loro difficoltà nella vita personale e sociale, in base alle barriere individuali, sociali, strutturali e ambientali. Inoltre, vengono esplorate e discusse le relazioni tra questi livelli di vita al fine di spiegare la loro oppressione sociale ed esclusione.
